A Future 2 school is designed to give students a well-rounded, future-focused education while maintaining strong academic instruction. Students continue learning core subjects like reading, math, and science, while also gaining opportunities to apply their learning, explore interests, and build important skills. Students advance by completing courses, and participating in hands-on experiences and workshops made to develop critical thinking and problem solving skills. 

Campuses selected for Future 2 will remain open and transition to a new instructional and programmatic model beginning in the 2026-2027 school year.

Campuses will continue operating normally through the remainder of this school year. Future 2 will start for the 2026-2027 school year.

Yes. For grades 3–8, the school day runs from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with campuses opening from 6:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Some required learning experiences may occur after school, on weekends, or outside the school building. HISD will provide opportunities to complete requirements during or after the school day, but families should expect a differently structured school day.

Yes. Core academic instruction remains a priority. Students continue to receive daily high-quality instruction aligned to grade-level expectations, with additional support provided when needed.

Yes. Transportation plans will be communicated directly by the school and the District. Families will receive clear information about bus routes, schedules, and any changes before the school year begins.

As part of this transition, your child may have a new principal, as well as some new teachers joining the campus. Current teachers will have the option to remain at the school, ensuring continuity wherever possible. The incoming principal and educators will be carefully selected, trained, and supported to maintain strong relationships and high-quality instruction. Our focus remains on providing your child with a safe, supportive environment where they can continue to learn, grow, and thrive.

No. There are no academic entry requirements to apply. Students will be placed into either an Accelerated or Regular academic program based on their assessment results. Both tracks are aligned to HISD’s instructional model. Future 2 students must meet high expectations for attendance, engagement, and completion of required experiences. 

The goal is to ensure every student is supported and successful. Future 2 schools provide academic interventions and support, counseling and social-emotional support, as well as dedicated staff to help students stay on track with learning and experiences.

Future 2 is the instructional model implemented at designated Future 2 campuses. Families who prefer a different instructional model may choose to enroll at another nearby campus with available space. Our goal is to ensure families have clear information and meaningful options so they can select the school environment that best supports their child’s needs.

There are two ways to apply depending on the school you are interested in.

Clemente Martinez Elementary & Gregg Elementary are our flagship Future 2 campuses. Use the Flagship Application link to apply.

All other Future 2 Schools — Bonham, Deady, Forest Brook, Hartman, Shadydale, Southmayd, and Sugar Grove — are available through the HISD School Choice application.

Yes, applications are accepted on an ongoing basis, but we encourage families to apply early as seats are limited and based on capacity by grade level.

Houston ISD's instructional model combines academics with real-world learning experiences to prepare students for future careers and an AI-enabled workforce. 

• Museums, nonprofits, businesses, higher education, city departments, workforce organizations, professional associations, and other educational partners. Both nonprofit and for-profit organizations are welcome.

Free and fee-based experiences are    accepted. All costs must be disclosed in the application. HISD will consider best value to the district when making partnership selections.

No. Mobile organizations may apply if they have safe, appropriate locations for programming.

Yes. Partners may offer off-site experiences, on-campus programs, or both.

Yes. Existing HISD partners will need to apply through the Future 2 application.

Future 2 will serve students in Grades 3-8 across 9 schools next year. You may support New Education System (NES) field trips for K-10 and Career & Technical Education high school students.

Yes. On the application, provide a description for each activity you want to conduct during the scheduled block.

Partners able to serve approximately 150 students per day are preferred, but smaller capacities are welcome. Partners should be able to accommodate this volume Tuesday - Friday for a three week period (with some exceptions to this on specific weeks). 

Submit separate applications only if experiences differ significantly. Updated applications may be submitted before the deadline.

Experiences should connect to one or more Future 2 competencies and support classroom learning. Multiple competencies are encouraged.

Teachers and school chaperones supervise students. Partners provide program staff.

Yes, partners will serve all Future 2 campuses for the dyad grade levels selected. Partners are not allowed to select an individual Future 2 campus to serve.  Partners interested in supporting NES campuses may only serve select NES schools.

Approved vendors follow HISD procurement procedures. Disclose all fees, admission, materials, staffing, equipment, deposits, cancellation fees, and transportation support. HISD will consider best value to the district when making partnership selections.

Transportation assistance is not required to apply or be selected. However, the district still must budget transportation for each experience and will consider best value from a cost perspective when making partnership selections.

Yes. Partners may also indicate interest in supporting NES campuses with field trips, CTE internships, workforce experiences, and additional on-campus programming.
